The Water Forum commissioned renowned local artist Stephanie Taylor to create an original painting for its 20th anniversary. Her piece, The Lower American River, celebrates the beauty and wonder of the river as our unique and cherished civic amenity and the only nationally designated “Wild and Scenic” river running through a major metropolitan area.
This beautiful artwork is being installed December 15-17 as a three-story tall public art display at the Sacramento County Administration Building at 700 H Street as a long-lasting tribute to the Water Forum and our region’s collaboration and work toward reaching the co-equal objectives of providing a reliable and safe water supply for the Sacramento region’s long-term growth and economic health; and preserving the fishery, wildlife, recreational, and aesthetic values of the lower American River.
We invite you to “stop by” via our webcam at waterforum.org to watch the mural installation team in action as they use a swing set and scaffolding to place the massive artwork and adhere it to the building using a hand-held heat gun, which operates at 1,000 degrees.
You can learn more about the project and artist, find a list of creatures portrayed in the painting and a line drawing that can be downloaded and colored in at https://www.waterforum.org/20th-anniversary-artwork/.
The Water Forum thanks the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors for their support of the Water Forum and this beautiful display of public art. The project is made possible through the advocacy of Supervisor Patrick Kennedy and the generous support of our sponsors.
