Capital Storytelling
MISSION:
The mission of Capital Storytelling is to foster empathy and connectivity in our city through stories. We support this mission by teaching individuals how to tell their own personal true narrative and then by giving them a platform to share them through regular live events and recorded audio podcasts.
HISTORY/INFORMATION:
Capital Storytelling was founded in 2018 by Sacramento State Professor, Lisa Cantrell. Seeing the need for greater connection among people, Cantrell launched the storytelling organization, leading community-wide workshops to teach individuals the art of narrative and then planning large events at which people could share their personal stories with one another through live performances.
The organization became a 501c3 in 2019. In that same year, Capital Storytelling launched its audio storytelling program, expanding classes to radio storytelling. The organization continues to train individuals in classes and workshops, partnering with local non-profits and businesses to teach the public the transformative power of personal storytelling.
