Nevada County Arts Council
MISSION:
Nevada County Arts Council, by resolution of Nevada County Board of supervisors, is State-Local Partner with California Arts Council. A 501c3 not-for-profit organization, it facilitates collaborative efforts that promote and sustain the visual, literary and performing arts of Nevada County to advance the cultural, social and economic life of our community. Three of Nevada County's townships are among a small pilot cohort representing just fourteen State-designated California Cultural Districts, and Nevada County Arts Council is lead consultant for each of them.
HISTORY/INFORMATION:
In 2008 a Town Hall meeting was held to solicit feedback on the formation of a new arts council In Nevada County. Priorities were developed which initiated a website with comprehensive arts events calendar and artist registry, advocacy with city and county governments, chambers of commerce, and other agencies; a common box office for the performing arts; and collaborative marketing, audience outreach and development.
In 2009 our mission and 501(c)(3) status was established and, since 2011, Nevada County Board of Supervisors has approved an annual resolution designating Nevada County Arts Council as the county's leadership and coordinating agency on behalf of the county's arts organizations and creative community, and thus eligible as California Arts Council's ongoing State-Local Partner.
Over the years Nevada County Arts Council has expanded its programming to include award-winning educational and creative placemaking initiatives, key research and important community convenings. In 2017 it partnered with three municipalities in successfully applying for state designation under the California Cultural District Program, thus earning a special place for Nevada County as home to two of the state's fourteen coveted districts - Grass Valley-Nevada City Cultural District and Truckee Cultural District.
