Sacramento Poetry Center

MISSION: 

The Sacramento Poetry Center’s mission is to promote and advance the practice and application of poetry and the literary arts in our community, to enliven and extend the cultural boundaries of Sacramento’s literary arena by creating and maintaining forums for local writers; to support and empower emerging and established poets, and to bring the best practitioners of the craft into the community.

HISTORY/INFORMATION: 

The Sacramento Poetry Center has been a literary resource since 1979. Its main functions are to promote literary readings, workshops and other events to bring people to appreciate a wide variety of texts and literature. Its main event is the Monday night reading series which occurs every Monday night. It is one of the few literary organizations in the country that consistently has weekly readings. This reading series has been in place for over 40 years. The Sacramento Poetry Center currently publishes an internationally-recognized literary journal called Tule Review that is a perfect bound publication with color photos of art submissions. The Sacramento Poetry Center also periodically holds fundraiser events for various community groups and causes and also some nationally-recognized charities and causes.
