The Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera

MISSION:

The Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera aims to foster community, inspire curiosity, and enrich lives through orchestral and operatic music

HISTORY/INFORMATION:

Music brings us together, and the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera is proud to connect our community through a shared passion for the arts and a variety of programs that our serve our diverse populations. Through our Classics and Pops productions, we provide our audiences with moving, memorable concert experiences. Through consistently sold-out concerts, we serve more than 2,000 patrons of all ages per concert each year.

We also teach music to approximately 6,000 underserved elementary students annually though Link Up, our core music education program. Originally created by Carnegie Hall, Link Up provides students with an engaging, comprehensive, and free of charge music education curriculum. We focus on the communities that need it most – 90% of our student participants are from Title I schools – and these students are from an incredibly mixed ethnic background.

Overall, exposing classic music to as many people as possible is a principal mandate of ours - and our community engagement initiatives are emblematic of this focus. Some of our recent programs have included monthly performances at Sophie’s Place in Sutter Hospital, Instrument Discovery Zones at organizational locations such as the Boys and Girls Club, and our Cre8tive Concerts series in unconventional public spaces throughout the community.

We often turn to music to lift our spirits in moments of joy, celebration, sadness, and uncertainty – and in this process, we are reminded of the strength, connection, and compassion in our communities. The SP&O is proud to serve this community and the greater Sacramento region by providing meaningful musical experiences to all.
